TRADITIONAL HUNGARIAN RECURVE BOW

“A sagittis hungarorum libera nos Domine!” (Modena, 924 A.D.) – in a rough translation: “Lord, save us from the arrows of the Hungarians”.

For a long time, this was about the only thing that came to most Hungarians’ minds about Hungarian archery. No wonder, with the introduction of firearms in the 16th century, archery in Hungary disappeared almost completely. What was left of it was not much more than fragments of bones and some rusty arrowheads buried along with their owners’ bodies in the 10th century. Yet still, it seems to be enough to reconstruct and revive this long-lost tradition. As an archeologist, Master bowyer Csaba Grózer’s father personally excavated some ancient burial sights in Hungary.

Quality bow at a budget price. It has a smooth and characteristically linear draw. The bow can be drawn up to 33″ without any problem, but it also works well at 28″ or less.

When Árpád and his army of around 70.000 people, including women and children, came to the aid of Magyars in the Carpathian basin in around 895 A.D., they quickly drove out the attacking German armies. Later, troops of 2-300 mounted archers ventured into various parts of enemy countries. Western armies did not find a way to strike back due to the efficiency of the Hungarian recurve bow and the incomparable skills of the Hungarian warriors.

For centuries, these western kingdoms paid the Ottoman army to siege Hungary and her allies.

When stringing the bow, the lower end of it mustn’t touch the ground and the upper end must be held and pressed under the bezel. The middle of the hilt should lean up on the inside part of the thigh, while the lower end of the bow above the bezel should lean up on the outside of your lower leg.
Before using set the string in the middle of the siyahs.
In the course of using the bow keep that part upwards where you can see the name Grozer.
