About us

In Hungary, traditional archery and bow making craftsmanship is still alive. Bowyers like Csaba Grózer and Zoltán Tóth craft replicas as close to the original as possible.

These master bowyers reproduce authentic recurve bows, found in 10th century graves by archaeologists in the 1920's.

Our traditional bow store, founded in 2000, has the best quality bows available. We are located in Hungary, EU and we have contact with all the Hungarian traditional bowyers and accessory crafters.

Recurve archery historical background

The Europeans first met Magyar (Hungarian) archers during the 862 Pannonian campaign. By 10th century A.D. the Hungarians were raiding Europe with their fast horses at their will. The most advanced weapon of the time was the energy-storing recurve reflex bow. Its shooting distance was at least twice as long as the western bow's. Because of this our ancestors were able to engage the enemy from a safe distance.

The story goes that a Turkish jannisar once shoot across the Bosporus, which is 900 metres (1000 yards) in width.

These types of reflex bows were widely used by the various people who were riding their horses from Mongolia to the Carpathians in the inlands of Eurasia. They were the Schytians, the Huns, the Avars, the Sarmatians, the Kuns, the Pechenegs, etc..

Traditional bow usage 101

Before you do any target practice, make sure there are no people or fragile objects in the direction you are aiming.

Never shoot an arrow straight up into the air.

Don't draw and release the string of a recurve bow without an arrow.

Never lean on the bow when braced.

After use, take the string off. After extended use the string may get thready and need waxing. When waxing pull the wax onto the string with fast motions.

Never leave a braced bow in direct hot sun or in a car that's very hot. If your traditional bow gets very hot e.g. having been carried in car summer always wait until it cools down before drawing.

Do not ever shoot the arrow in hard surfaces including wood.
